Motivation is a small word, but it carries outcomes that can defy gargantuan odds. Couple motivation with dedication and will, and together they become a force to be reckoned with. We have heard stories of strong-willed individuals for centuries and read about the feats they accomplished without superhuman strengths. There are, however, those who might not have moved mountains but have inspired others with their words.
Padma Bhushan awardee Girish Karnad was one such individual. A Rhodes scholar, actor, playwright and director, he had been bestowed with the prestigious Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and the Jnanpith awards. Driven by passion and his love for writing and cinema, he left a comfortable position in the Oxford University Press to pursue a career in writing and acting. Considered to be a foolhardy move at the time, this Rhodes scholar defeated all odds and became a successful and familiar face in Indian theatre and cinema.
